When a policewoman came to MFWI, I wondered "Why don't Americans carry a lot of cash?" The policewoman and advisers said to us, "Don't carry a lot of cash!" Then they said , "America is a credit card society." It's different from Japan because some shops or restaurants still can't use a credit card in Japan, so I noticed the difference in payment. I want to compare payment in Japan with payment in America. Why do Americans mostly use a credit card?
I was watching Americans when I went shopping. I noticed lots of young American people used a credit card. I was surprised because almost all young Japanese people don't use a credit card. If I saw a person who used a credit card in Japan, it's mostly an adult. I was interested to know when can they get a credit card. I interviewed my R.A., she said it's 18 years old. This is the same age in Japan. Then I asked, "Why do Americans mostly use a credit card? Why not cash?" She answered , "Credit cards are very useful and if they are stolen, we just call the bank. And if I use a lot of cash, I have to go to the bank many times." I was very confused, so I asked , "Can Americans easily get a credit card? Are there no rules?" She answered, "Almost no rules. We get a credit card very easily." The answer is different because in Japan, if I want to get a credit card, I have to fulfill a lot of requirements. I must have a job (not a part time job) and if I'm under 20 years old, I must have my parent's permission; of course, my parent must have a job.
In conclusion, I think Americans mostly use a credit card because it's easy to get a credit card when they turn 18 years old. And maybe more people have their purses stolen in America, so that why Americans like to mostly use credit cards istead of cash.

Hi, Yukina.
I offen use a credit card because it is very convenient and my card has some useful prerogative. For example, when I buy ticket, I can buy it more earlyer than most of pepole who want to get it. I think using a card is better than using cash.
