When I saw American houses, I noticed there is a large garden behind each house, but I have never seen their washing hanging out in the gardens. In Japan, there are many clothes drying racks in front of each house because it is a common style in Japan. So, I wondered, “Why don’t American people dry their laundry outside?”
I asked my RA. She said it’s very easy and quick to dry clothes in a dryer in America. American people don’t want to take a long time to hang out their clothes outside, so they use a dryer. However, Japanese people hang out their washing every time because it’s good for our clothes and it doesn’t take electricity, so it doesn’t cost us anything. If we use the dryer, it damages clothes quickly, so we have to buy new clothes.
On the other hand, when she lived at home, she dried her laundry outside in good weather because her house was in the country. Why do you think it is possible to dry their laundry outside in the country? Because, in America people want a beautiful view when they are looking out of the houses, but in the country, nobody cares about the view. Also, people think the air is dirty and dusty in the city, so they can’t hang their laundry outside. It depends on where they live. Also, in general, America has cheap hydroelectric power, so drying your clothes in a dryer doesn’t cost as much as in Japan.
In conclusion, American people don’t want to take too much time when they dry their clothes. Also, there are some people who do dry laundry outside but more who dry it in their house. It depends on where they live. I noticed Japanese and Americans have different ideas about drying laundry, which is interesting.

Interesting!
I think if we dry our clothes outside in the U.S., someone will steal these!!lol
But, since I read your essay, I really agree with you. American air...dusty...but Osaka, too. Right? lol
In my case, I want to dry outside becase it's fresh!!
When I came to America for a first time,I was surprised about that.
