What Do You Think About ATMs in America?

I’m interested in Automatic Teller Machines in America. They are on the wall in supermarkets or in buildings, and some machines are just sitting on the floor: there is no wall for hiding the machines. It’s too dangerous. In Japan, ATMs are in a box like a public telephone booth. However, the machine is just sitting there in America. When I saw it for the first time, I couldn’t believe it. What do you think about ATMs in America?

I asked some people about that. Lolo, who is my RA, said that there are ATM boxes in America but just some. She doesn’t know why there aren’t some walls or some boxes for protecting for the machines. If the machines are on the street, it’s more convenient and she also thinks the Japanese style is better because it’s safer. With the Japanese style, we can protect people from those who try to steal our money when we are withdrawing it. Also in Japan, a citizen would help us if a stranger tried to enter the box and take our money. I feel as if I must not withdraw money from American style machines because it’s too dangerous. When I put a card into a machine and get money, someone could certainly steal my money.

I want the bank to set up the ATMs in a secure place like the Japanese do. I think the Japanese style is the best because I got used to using the machines in Japan. For other people who live in other countries, Japanese style machines might feel very dangerous because the box is a closed room, so maybe no one would notice if someone attacked me so nobody would help me. Therefore, we have to pay attention when we use Automatic Teller Machines in America and in Japan.
