Watch Out!!!

Last weekend I made a huge mistake! Though I have made so many mistakes so far, I think that was one of the biggest ones I’ve ever made. Guess what! I called the police!!

On Saturday night, I was planning to call my friend who lives in Virginia, America. I prepared a phone card and I pressed the number but the voice was different from what I expected so I said “Oh, I’m sorry. I made a mistake” and I hung up the phone. Afterwards I picked up the receiver again but the guy was still there. At that time I realized that I had pressed 911 and that meant the police. I pressed my pin number for the phone card which starts with 911, instead of the phone number! It made my blood run cold! Luckily he was very kind so I was relieved.

However, there is a big reason for this accident. The person who I tried to call was my best friend from high school. She is always so kind, pretty, funny and sometimes very gentle. When I am in trouble, she listens to me and makes me relaxed. I love to chat with her and I had a good time in America last semester partly because of her. However, we got into a fight before I went back to Japan this May so we had no contact this summer. Therefore I was so nervous about calling her. I had a stomachache since that morning and I couldn’t eat my dinner. As a result, I had made the big mistake.

After apologizing to the man on the phone at the 911 center, I ran to my RA’s room which is very close to the phone, and I told her about it. She said laughing “Wow, you are so funny! Cute though!” Unfortunately, she talked the whole things to her boy friend. I was so embarrassed! And then, the next morning, somehow I woke up at 6:30 AM so I called Japan and I told about it to my family. At first, they guffawed about it and my mother said laughingly “Are you okay?! You were too nervous, weren’t you? I don’t want to take you to the psychiatric hospital anymore! Funny though! ” (Once I went to the hospital because of a trifling reason) I can laugh at it now but I was seriously nervous at that time!

October 4 became an unforgettable day for me. I promise that I will make a lot of mistakes in classes from now on too but I will never make such a mistake like I made on that day. Also, I learned that you couldn’t get anything good from conflicts. The experience was funny but very silly. I have to apologize to my host father who is a police officer though I’m sure he will laugh!

Using a phone card is usually pretty easy, but i can see that you could potentiall mess up if you're that nervous!

Wow. This is funny, but I bet the police didn't think it was funny. This will be a good story to tell your friends and family when you return to Japan.
