First, I thought the houses in the Southwest were very different from Spokane. They were made of adobe or soil and had no roof. They looked like tables. I think it is easy to keep cool in summer. The churches and shops in the Southwest were also made of adobe or soil, so it is part of the culture from a long time ago.
Next, when I was watching TV in the hotel, sometimes I heard Spanish. For example, when one program started, the host said not "Hi" but "Hola". I was surprised because I thought the people who lived there spoke English and there were few people who could speak Spanish. However, I could hear "Hola" on every TV program. It was interesting for me!
Finally, there is still Pueblo Indian culture. I went to a school in Acoma. I talked with six children whose ancestors were Pueblo Indians. The students had an English name and an Indian name. It was very interesting for me because they had two names! They know the meaning of each Indian name in English. For example, flower, star, butterfly and sun. Also, they could speak their pueblo language a little because the teacher teaches them it in class. They are studying their ancient language! It is good because the culture is kept by the modern people. Recently, culture has gone through big changes in each country, so to keep culture is very good.
There are many cultures in the world and I could learn about one of these through this trip. Each culture has a long history. This trip was a good experience for me!
