American University

Recently, I was often surprised difference between an American University and a Japanese University because the chance which I can learn about American University increased this semester, so this surprise is like culture shock. When I really first noticed the difference in TOEFL class, and I took explanation of TOEFL also American University class. American University students always take notes during the classes, but the teacher doesn’t write on the board except the most important things or new words, so they need to listen carefully to the important words which the teacher said. This skill is very difficult for me because in Japan most teachers write almost the words which we should take a note on the board so we don’t care if we miss the important information, or we never take notes, or worst, we don’t listen to what the teacher says. Therefore, I also noticed the difference which the students determine what is their goal. In Japan almost the people, not only children, but also their parents think the goal of life is entering best college, because which college you graduated helps their future, such as employment and marriage, so they study hard for the entrance examination of college from they were high school students. However, American high school students don’t study so hard , but college students need to study by motivation. It’s a responsibility of them selves. This is very a difficult demand instead of freedom but these are just my opinion. I don’t know whether these are true or not. From these words, I am really in a bind that I can keep up TOEFL classes.
